California Baseball Camps and at one of our Bay Area Baseball Camps. On behalf of our league I would like to personally thank you for the outstanding pitching clinic your instructors provided last Sunday. The quality of the instruction was above all we receive from any other sources, and the attitude of the guys towards the kids and the professionalism they portrayed in general were both a joy to see and an inspiration for all. This was a first class run event in every aspect.
I have to relate a story to you about my 9 year old son Ryan that I think exemplifies the impact of the pitching clinic you held a few weeks ago in Saratoga. Last night I was lying on the bed with him helping to wind down to go to sleep. We were talking about the game he pitched a few hours before and he told me:
That after his first 10 or so pitches he realized he was wild and it was because when he started his motion he was rocking back a bit and taking a long stride towards the mound.
That Brandon (ABC pitching instructor from the clinic) taught him that when he is wild to look for these actions.
Brandon also taught him to angle his feet on his starting point, stay a bit more upright to avoid rocking back, and take a smaller step towards the mound.
When Ryan made these adjustments he reeled off about 5 or 6 consecutive pitches that were strikes, and threw about 80% of his remaining pitches in or around the zone. Aside from being blown away that Ryan would actually remember this from weeks ago, the fact that a 9 year old could self correct his motion during a game left me completely stunned. I don't consider Ryan to be any sort of extraordinary child, which leads me to believe there are a lot more kids out there who are picking up on these tips.
I mentioned this is to offer some "priceless" evidence of how valuable these clinics really are. Thanks for doing such a great job with the kids!
