David Engle
PBI of IL Instructor
Dave Engle is a former All-NCAA and All-Big Ten pitcher from the University of Illinois and hails originally from Freeport. From 1979 to 1998, he was the Barrington High School pitching coach and worked alongside long-time high school and American Legion coach, Kirby Smith. During this time, the Broncos won eight state championships (HS and Legion), including being the only team in Illinois history to be in the HS state championship game three consecutive years. Also during this time, over 120 Barrington young men went on to play college baseball with a significant number of them pitchers, including David Trautwein of the PBI staff. He and his wife Cher live in the village of Barrington. They have two children, Jeremy (former BHS and Northwestern Univ. pitcher) and Jennifer, both of whom live in Portland, Oregon.
