Has managed more than 1,700 games in his 29 years as minor league skipper...Earned his first ever post-season berth in 2002 and began his managerial career with Niagara Falls in 1973...Has managed Bradenton every year since 1974 with the exception of 1988 (manager at Augusta) and 1990 (coach at Bradenton) and has amassed 711 victories...

Had newly erected clubhouse at Pirate City in Bradenton named in his honor on March 3, 1999...Began his playing career in Hastings, NE, after signing with San Francisco in 1959...Was drafted by the Oakland Athletics the following year and spent nine seasons in their farm system before coming to the Pittsburgh organization in 1969.
